Meet Nicole
Our founder, Nicole Spencer, MS CCC-SLP, has over 9 years of speech therapy experience in a variety of settings and is passionate about helping children communicate and addressing speech and language difficulties. She is originally from New York and received her Master's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders at The College of St. Rose in Albany, NY.
As a bilingual therapist, Nicole is able to provide therapy in Spanish and understands the importance of dual-language learning in any language. She also has advanced training in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), Gestalt Language Processing, and Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS).
When not helping children communicate, Nicole loves to rock climb, work out, hang out with her husband and dogs, get into any new creative pursuits, and watch reality TV!
At Making Waves Speech Therapy,
our goal is to empower people with communication difficulties to find their voice and be heard. We specialize in neurodiversity-affirming therapy, including Gestalt language processing, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), and play-based therapy, which help children develop their communication skills in a fun and enjoyable way. We are also equipped to address a wide range of speech sound disorders and language disorders.
We take a holistic approach to therapy, and we treat every client as a unique individual with their own needs and challenges. We believe that communication is an essential part of human connection, and we strive to help people achieve their communication goals through personalized and evidence-based therapy. Meet the Team
Our team of qualified speech-language pathologists are fully licensed to practice in Virginia and hold additional certification by ASHA. Therapists all hold a minimum of a Master's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

We offer speech therapy evaluations and therapy services in our conveniently located Virginia Beach office space. Child and family-friendly, this space includes age-appropriate toys and materials that allow children to feel comfortable and most importantly, to play!
